Marisa Gray is the founder of Tableau Gray, a boutique art consultancy that marries art with architecture to enhance built environments through targeted placemaking. Since it’s conception in 2020, it has managed ~$1.5M in projects and commissioned 170+ artworks from 40+ artists. She primarily focuses on supporting Bay Area artists.
Margaret Wingard is a San Francisco–based multidisciplinary visual and conceptual artist. Drawing from her background in construction, architecture, interior design, and permitting, she creates large-scale, materially complex works.
Drawn to the Bay Area as the birthplace of New Genre Public Art, a movement that views community as its medium and social engagement as its form—Wingard has spent over a decade collaborating with property developers. Through this experience, she came to see that developers, when guided by conscience, are artists in their own right.
It was through this network that she was offered access to a vacant Walgreens in the Financial District. While the property awaited entitlements, it served as her studio for ten months—rent-free. The freedom from financial strain was so transformative for her own practice that she proposed scaling the concept to benefit other artists. This idea evolved into a partnership with Presidio Bay Foundation and Marisa LaVallee, forming what is now Shifting Studios.
